What happens during clean-up?
Although no two hoarding and clutter cleanup situations are exactly the same, we generally follow a three-step process.
Step 1: Clutter Removal
In this step, items in the home are sorted and either disposed of, donated, or kept. Mississippi Hoarding typically uses a dumpster to efficiently dispose of non-regulated waste. Infectious or hazardous waste, appliances, and electronics will be disposed of using the proper protocols. Items to be donated are placed in our truck and a receipt will be provided at the end of the project.
Step 2: Basic Organization
Next, items that are kept are moved to the appropriate location in the home and neatly stored in closets, cabinets, furniture, etc. If more extensive organizing or organizational strategies are desired, Mississippi Hoarding may bring in a professional organizer.
Step 3: Disinfecting and deodorizing
Finally, Mississippi Hoarding will clean floors, appliances, cabinets, furniture, counters, and other areas of the home as needed. In many situations, we find biohazards such as mold and bacteria under piles that have not been moved in many years. In other situations, we find other contaminants like animal feces or remains. Specialty disinfecting, sanitizing, and deodorizing solutions are used to ensure the best results.
